The hospital has strategically centered its focus around its dominant disciplines, continuously refining and optimizing the arrangement of its scientific research platforms. This deliberate approach has significantly strengthened the hospital's ability to support technological innovation and foster the development of high-caliber research platforms, leading to the establishment of several advanced research and innovation platforms. Over time, the hospital has successively obtained approvals for prestigious platforms, including: The National Health Commission’s Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Functional Brain Diseases, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Brain Diseases and Aging , The Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Maternal-Fetal Medicine Innovation and Talent Introduction Base (111 Program), The Ministry of Education’s International Cooperation Joint Laboratory for Reproductive and Developmental Biology, The Chongqing Translational Medicine Center (one of only two in Chongqing), and The jointly established Key Laboratory for Metabolic Vascular Diseases, a collaboration between Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality. The hospital also manages four key laboratories under the Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau (for the Prevention and Treatment of Major Blindness-Causing Eye Diseases, Molecular Oncology and Epigenetics, Major Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders, Maternal-Fetal Medicine), two key laboratories under the Chongqing Education Commission (specializing in Neurology and Translational Medicine of Major Metabolic Diseases), five key laboratories under the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission (dedicated to Neurology, General Surgery, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Musculoskeletal System Regeneration and Translational Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Precision Rehabilitation), seven Chongqing Clinical Medical Research Centers, one Chongqing Science Popularization Base, and one Chongqing Education Commission Collaborative Innovation Center.
Currently, the hospital’s research platforms span approximately 17,000 square meters and house cutting-edge research instruments and equipment valued at roughly 160 million yuan. Among the advanced tools available are a two-photon fluorescence microscopy imaging system, a droplet digital PCR system, a laser confocal microscope, a flow cytometer, a panoramic tissue cell 3D scanning and analysis system, a live-cell sorting flow cytometer, an LC-MS liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry system, a brain slice patch clamp system, a mass spectrometry analysis system, a high-content cell imaging system, and a live imaging system. These state-of-the-art instruments provide strong scientific and technological support for cultivating high-end scientific and technological talents and graduate students at the hospital. Serving as a veritable incubator for high-caliber medical science and technology breakthroughs, these platforms play a pivotal role in facilitating the transformation of top-tier research achievements into clinical practice, thereby promoting the mutual integration of groundbreaking research and clinical practice.
In alignment with the “Healthy China” strategy and the national medium- and long-term science and technology development blueprint, and guided by the development of national medical centers and regional medical centers, the hospital established the Innovation Research Institute of Chongqing Medical University. In addition, the hospital has established a biobank and successfully secured official registration for the preservation of human genetic resources, as approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This biobank provides standardized services for the processing and preservation of biological samples, thereby supporting scientific research across the entire hospital. Leveraging its clinical drug trial platform to its fullest potential, the hospital actively conducts Phase I-IV drug (and device) clinical trials, bioequivalence studies, and investigator-initiated trials (IIT). Researchers are encouraged to take a leading role in or participate in both international and domestic multi-center clinical trials, all of which are conducted in a lawful, compliant and highly standardized manner. The hospital also takes proactive steps to secure funding through multiple channels, and has established a Big Data and Smart Healthcare Research Center. This center acts as a conduit for the seamless exchange of clinical data and medical research. Moreover, the hospital has launched a technology transfer incubation platform, known as the “Med + X” Collaborative Innovation Center, to expedite the transformation of pioneering technologies and medical research outcomes into clinical solutions.
