Congratulations! Professor Ren Guosheng has been elected as Foreign Corresponding Member of the French National Academy of Medicine!
On January 7, the French National Academy of Medicine (NAM) awarded certificates and medals to newly elected members at its New Year “Opening Ceremony.”.
Professor Catherine BARTHÉLÉMY, President of the French National Academy of Medicine, announced that Professor Ren Guosheng from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) was elected as a Foreign Corresponding Member of the NAM. She highly praised his outstanding contributions to medical science, particularly in the field of breast surgery.
The newly elected members are renowned experts from various fields worldwide, who have made significant contributions to the advancement of medical science and human health.
Professor Christian BOITARD, Permanent Secretary of the NAM, presented the membership certificate and medal to Professor Ren. The ceremony was also attended by Minister-Counselor Zhou Jiagui and First Secretary Zhu Ying from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of France, along with representatives from the French medical community.
With the election of Professor Ren Guosheng, China now has 14 experts who have been honored as foreign members or foreign corresponding members of the NAM.
Founded in 1820, the French National Academy of Medicine is a prestigious institution with a global reputation and plays a significant role in the international medical community. Since its establishment, 11 of its members have won the Nobel Prize. The Academy currently has 135 members, 160 corresponding members, 60 foreign members, and 120 foreign corresponding members.

Chief Physician, Second-degree Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor, is the former President of the First Affiliated Hospital of CQMU, Distinguished Professor of of Chongqing Par-Eu Scholars Program, Chief Medical Expert of Chongqing, Lead Expert of the Chongqing Chief Expert Studio. He has served as Chairman of 4 specialized committees and Vice Chairman of 5 specialized committees under national-level academic associations, including the Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and Chinese Hospital Association. He has published 441 academic papers, including 181 SCI papers, and has authored 25 national-level textbooks and academic monographs, including Surgery, General Surgery, and Endocrine System Diseases. His awards include: National May 1st Labor Medal (China), Chinese Medical Doctor Award, Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite (France, 2011), Officier de la Légion d'Honneur (France, 2021).
Professor Ren has long been engaged in clinical diagnosis, treatment, and basic research in breast diseases, especially breast cancer. He innovatively conducted a nationwide multi-center, prospective, randomized controlled trial on the tumor safety and clinical efficacy of immediate autologous fat transplantation in breast-conserving surgery. He pioneered the development and promotion of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction and breast tumor plastic surgery (OPS) in China. He also established academic cooperation and exchange platforms including Sino-French International Breast Cancer Symposium, Sino-French Workshop on Breast Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the Sino-French Breast Surgery Academy, which have become well-known international academic exchange brands in China. These platforms have trained thousands of breast specialists across the country.
